CAO Best thanked Planner Sarah Smith and CBO Dwayne McNab for their hard work in preparing the draft comprehensive zoning by-law. He advised that this meeting is to make sure that the changes proposed by staff meets the criteria set by council.
Planner Smith provided an overview of some of the changes in the proposed by-law and noted that all mapping changes and natural strategy have not been included in the draft yet. She added that information on codes that are changed but not referenced on the map.
Ms. Smith outlined the framework for the Open House to be held on May 10, 2018 and advised that there will be two additional county planners to assist her for the drop in session. The mandatory public meeting will be another opportunity for the public comments and concerns. Ms. Smith advised that the draft document and the mapping will be available to the public after this meeting as being formally release by the committee although the document will continue to have changes.
Planner Smith advised that Council may want to pass a by-law allowing new zoning amendments as the provincial restrictions for no new zoning amendments for a two year period following the passing of a new by-law may be too restrictive.
The committee had a general discussion on what the future by-law will entail. The Committee would like to see feedback from key stakeholders on trends for new development, current and previous zone names, list of types of uses of what is permitted and what residents would like to see.
The Committee directed the May 17 Committee of the Whole meeting review the feedback from the May 10, 2018 open house.
